Jane set up as a freelance nutrition consultant in 1980, combining this with a part-time post as research dietician at St George's Hospital Medical School. Two years later she began specialising in sports nutrition, and in 1992 was both tutor and student on the first British Dietetic Association Validated Course in Sports Nutrition and Dietetics. The accreditation that accompanies successful completion of this course is recognised by all the leading sporting organisations in the UK.
Jane was named in the Independent on Sunday as one Britain's ten leading dieticians in April 2002 - as chosen by her peers. In June the same year, Jane was presented with the prestigious British Dietetic Association Ibex Award in recognition of her significant contribution to the profession through her work in the field of sports nutrition.
